After the first hour or so of door-knocking last night, an allergy attack demoted me from Campaign Assistant to Campaign Chauffer (Or was that a promotion?  Hmm).

I didn’t think my red nose and constant sneezing would win Art any votes, so instead I drove him from street to street as we continued our journey of knocking out another precinct.   Thus, no personal stories, just observations to report…

Art has put in so many hours door-knocking that we are now hitting each precinct again, trying to catch people who weren’t home the first time around, or speaking with “undecided” voters a second time.  What I’ve noticed is that, in the case of the latter scenario, Art almost always came back to the car with a smile on his face that says, “I have their vote!”  I think folks truly appreciate his hard work and attentiveness to speak with them about their issues.  And it was amazing to me how quickly each visit went.  After introductions, I could see some smiles and lots of head nods, then he’d be bouncing back to the ArtStaedMobile before you could say “Jack Robinson”.  (Maybe it’s partly because his chatty wife wasn’t by his side!)   Oh, I also detected that Art has completely won over the canine vote!  My goodness, at every home with a dog (translate this to be 99% of the homes we visit), Art was greeted with tail-wagging, hand-licking, leg-nuzzling friendliness…from the dogs, not the home-owners, that is!  Have you read some of my prior posts mentioning Art’s run-ins and away-froms with dogs?    Trust me, as of last night, the tide has turned and even the four-legged animals are in Art’s camp now!
