October 20

It felt like a lazy Saturday and we were walking in a ghost town – hardly anyone outside enjoying this glorious day and the streets were eerily quiet.  Nonetheless, Art made a bunch of great contacts and gained more support as we were out door-knocking.

We stopped again at the home of James (names changed).  Art had visited with him at his door last year and pegged James as an “undecided”.  This meeting we received a different response.  James had done his homework, researching Art’s votes and speaking with friends and neighbors to get their views.  “I keep hearing nothing but good about you, Art!  You’ve got my vote.”  We also had several tell us they’d just voted for Art.  All in all, a successful day out on the trail, and now Art is busy making phone calls to folks he hasn’t been able to reach at the doors.

There is a bit of bummer news to relate, however.  Art used to receive an abundance of positive comments from the many postal carriers we’ve met and befriended. “Hey, it’s Mr. Accountability!” said one when he spoke to Art.  (This is a reference to a campaign mailer a few weeks ago.)  Recently, though, we received a call from one of the carriers. The conversation started with, “Hello am I speaking to the most hated man in the post office?”  Although our friend was joking, we discovered that one of Art’s mailer’s caused “booking”.  It seems that other pieces of mail get caught in the tri-fold campaign piece, which of course means extra work sorting. (Good info for future reference, Jeff 🙂   Actually, the post office is most appreciative of the literally thousands of first class mail we’ve sent out in the past two years.  We’re makin’ them profitable and giving people jobs!

Looking forward to meeting with more “undecideds” tomorrow!
