Serene, calming, verdant….these words describe the beautiful gardens we noticed while door-knocking today.
I’m in awe of many of our neighbors’ gardening abilities, and slightly envious of the lush results. Our lawn, this year, looks more like a hay field, and the only thing we’ve been planting is yard signs!
While out door-knocking, Art and I have had great contacts and conversations the last several days. We met the manager of a local pizza restaurant (yep, pizza again….guess what we’re having for dinner?) who was just plain exuberant about meeting Art, and wanted a yard sign placed next to that of his friend’s, Daniel Lundby! We met Jim (name changed), a 30-year old dad who was reading a night-time story to his son when we came to the door. Art made his visit with Jim quick, so that he could get back to quality time with his son. We met with a home-schooling mom who shared her views and concerns about education. We “met” a young man who hollered hello through the kitchen window, then explained he was replacing the flooring and couldn’t come to the door. When Art asked if he’d like a yard sign, he said, “Yeah, Dude!” We met a guy working on his car, and another man washing his car. We met with laborers, law-enforcement officers, educators, mail carriers, business owners and engineers. One of the things Art and I relished about owning a coffee shop, was the vast diversity of folks that came through our café’s doors. We are now appreciating the diversity of our community as we approach voters at their doors. All in all, it’s been a terrific weekend, and we look forward to tomorrow’s adventures!
