Art received confirmation of another “push poll” call a supporter received. This one is particularly offensive; the caller asks of the voter, “Did you know Art’s ex-wife says he abandoned his daughter because of politics?”
It’s incredibly hurtful to hear these outrageous lies against Art. When the vilification of his character involves our extended family, it’s reprehensible. Art’s ex, a wonderful woman, is as incredulous as we are, and has offered to publicly refute this charge.
Unfortunately, the legal counsel Art received was to obtain a copy of the polling. Not many of us keeps a tape recorder by the phone on the off-chance we’ll be getting one of those calls. It’s a darn good thing Art is the candidate and not me: with this last barrage of below-the-belt campaign nastiness, I probably would have given up, my Pollyanna glasses smashed into smithereens. However, Art is more resolved than ever before to do what’s best for Iowans. How did he respond to the meanness? By purchasing not one, but two new pairs of walking shoes, and going out door-knocking! He is staying focused on the positive results we’re getting by meeting with voters one-on-one.
Speaking of positive results… without doubt, the best part of this entire endeavor has been forging new friendships (and solidifying old ones : ) with volunteers and supporters of the campaign. This Saturday, we are having a Volunteer Potluck BBQ. We’d love to have past, present & future volunteers and their families join us! If you’re interested, please call or email and I’ll give you the details. susanstaed@gmail.com 319-573-7501
